CodeWest API 510 Exam Prep Course Information

10 to 11 CodeWest API 510 Exam Prep Course (9 days of instruction with 2 Practice Exams)

Welding requirements: approx. 3 days
Detailed introductory review of ASME Section IX, VIII, Div. 1, API-510 and API-577 welding requirements covering basic Section IX & VIII requirements for PQR, WPS & WPQ review, heat treatment, MDMT and API-510 alternative methods for repairs & alterations.

API Documents: approx. 2 days
Includes review of each document in class and review of actual past test questions and practice questions. Time is allowed for pertinent class discussion concerning application of the requirements and explanations. Many questions on the API standards are closed book during the actual examination and a good memory is important.

ASME VIII & V: approx. 3 to 4 days
Coverage of all the areas of design and NDE outlined in the "Body of Knowledge."

Practice Exam & Review: approx. 1 to 2 days
In addition to the material presented during class each day there will be homework assignments in the evenings and opportunities to review material again with the instructions.

CodeWest API-510 Exam Prep Course Instructors, Authors, and Editors

Marvin L. Coats has more than 25 years experience in design, construction, operation, and maintenance of pressure systems and related equipment. His experience spans nuclear & fossil power generation, upstream oil and gas and transport tanks/vessels to name a few. He is an active and past member of several ASME boiler and pressure vessel committees Subgroup Section I Design and past member of Subgroup General Requirements Section VIII. Marvin holds an active NB Commission with A,B,N,I and IS endorsements. Marvin is an experienced trainer in ASME and API topics. He has taken over updating and editing the CodeWest API-510 and API-570 courses.

John W. Stokes is a past member of the subgroup design for ASME Section VIII, Div. 1. He has over thirty years experience in the boiler and pressure vessel field including involvement in operation, design, fabrication, repair and alteration, and in-service inspection. He has trained many successful candidates for the API 510 Pressure Vessel Inspector Certification and National Board examinations. John has presented all or part of over three dozen CodeWest API 510 Exam Prep Courses in the US and Canada.

J.W. Coley, PE has over 32 years experience in engineering and inspection in the petrochemical industry. He served as Chairman of the API Subcommittee on Inspections and Vice Chairman of the Subcommittee on Corrosion, Materials and Inspection, and participated as a member of the API 510, API 570, and API 653 Task Groups. Jim is also the original author of the CodeWest API-653 Review and Exam Prep Course.

Tim Schindler: Tim is an ASNT Level III in RT, VT, PT and MT, AWS/CWI, and also holds the API-510, 570 & API-653 certifications. Tim has extensive experience in boiler, pressure vessel and piping inspection in the power generation and petrochemical fields and brings a wealth of practical knowledge to our courses and the presentation. Tim was a course author and instructor and we welcomed him back in June 2008. Tim has written both 510 and 570 courses and presented 510, 570, 653, AWI/CWI and other technical courses.
